How it All Got Started...

The Grounds bookstore opened in March 2012 in the newly constructed atrium of Mecklenburg Community Church ("Meck"). The cafe opened just two months later. Envisioned by Pastor James Emery White at least 10 years earlier, The Grounds serves as a "third-place" refuge for the community - a home away from home where anyone can come to enjoy a good cup of coffee and delve into the vast collection of faith-strengthening resources.

A Café with a Mission

The proceeds of every purchase made at The Grounds - whether in store or online - go directly to the ministries and missions efforts of Meck, including:

  • local ministry partners such as Crisis Assistance Ministry, Second Harvest Food Bank and A Child's Place;
  • global missions efforts: rescuing and providing refuge for victims of sex-trafficking in the Philippines, teaching English and bringing the gospel to students in Slovakia, delivering medical assistance to the poor in Guatemala, just to name a few.
  • Meck ministries focused on providing spiritual support to the community through children & student programs, small groups, discipleship, and more.

What We Offer

The Grounds boasts a delicious cafe menu with fair-trade coffee from around the world, specialty drinks like our Warm Cinnamon Toast Chai or our Iced Fit Frappes, the kind of pastries that melt in your mouth, and the best hot chocolate around.  Check out our menu here.

But more standout still is our bookstore. Each book on the shelf was hand-picked by the pastors and staff at Meck so that you can have full-confidence in any selection you may make. With books from a variety of genres, we've got something for the spiritual explorer and the Christian theologian alike.

We also carry an extensive inventory of messages and message series from Meck, handmade fair-trade products, and DaySpring journals and gifts.

And if that's not enough, The Grounds has 2-story seating. Cafe tables spread out across the first floor, perfect for business meetings or getting some work done. Upstairs is The Grounds' Loft with comfy couches, armchairs for days and an eclectic design atmosphere to get your creative juices flowing
